My Thoughts on My Media Usage

On August 24th, 2025 I recorded my media usage over a period of a day and here are my observations.

From Evaluating my attachments to media facets as a whole I realized that like many others I am addicted to the internet. For almost every hour of the day there was at least some interaction with a different form of modern media concerning technology. From checking my email, to being addicted to the reels algorithm on Instagram, I was always spending at least some time, every hour, by being involved in the constant flow of information. From the beginning of my day I started with media and ended my day with media. However, what I’ve learned from observing my habits is that I tend to use outlets from the largest corporations. Whether it was from YouTube(Owned by google), or Instagram (Owned by Meta ) I almost always received the majority of my information about current events either through small content creators on the largest platforms or renowned media conglomerates such as a Comcast owned news networks.

Personally, I’ve always found media literacy to be a key value of mine and the concept of fact checking my own sources before making a statement is important. While I do follow and observe many X users that make statements and pose as journalists, I almost always check their declarations with multiple sources to reaffirm their credibility. Moreover, even though I may dislike the scale of how large the media companies are that can control narratives, I often follow smaller users to offset the bias from these media companies. What I’ve found to be the safest option in regards to breaking news, is to have as many options as possible with different biases. That way the allorhythmia developed for these platforms do not create an environment of echo-chambers that give blatantly biased opinions.

Lastly, I would state that my method of receiving the most credible information is a combination of sources containing smaller known journalists on sources such as X with large outlets namely MSNBC and ABC.
